The trainer Dan Skelton has spotted what makes this horse tick. Skelton's yard, based at Alcester in Warwickshire, has already sent out 198 winners this season, and Edelak looks to be exactly the sort of horse the operation specializes in: a horse with good flat form who prefers to be ridden positively and allowed to settle into a rhythm. When Edelak arrived at Galway for his first career win on 30 July, he had disappointed recently at the Curragh, where he seemed to overthink things. Skelton's jockey at the time, Georgie Benson, realized what was needed: blinkers to sharpen his focus, and an aggressive ride to get him travelling early. It worked. The horse flew, and Edelak was away.

Stratford-on-Avon has become a happy hunting ground, with two wins from three races at the track. That course specialist status, combined with his dominance over longer distances and fast ground, gives a clear picture of a horse who knows what he likes and delivers when the pieces fit. The trainer has mentioned that Edelak may progress to juvenile hurdling soon, which is an intriguing glimpse of his future—but for now, this four-year-old remains a live prospect on the Flat, particularly in races where the ground is firm and the distance extends beyond two furlongs.
