Earnest Belief

The horse races primarily at Class 4 level — mid-tier racing, not the glamour end of the sport, but a competitive enough environment where winning is not easy. Six races at that level without a win is a frustrating record on paper, and yet four places from nine overall suggests Earnest Belief keeps running honest races. The difference between placing and winning is often small — a length here, a mistake there — but it is the difference that matters most in the record books.

Earnest Belief is trained by Donald McCain at his yard in Cholmondeley, Cheshire. McCain is one of the more recognisable names in British racing, and his operation is in decent form right now — 55 winners sent out this season is a healthy return, suggesting a yard that is ticking along well. Having a trainer of that experience behind a horse that has not yet broken its duck is, if anything, a reason for cautious optimism. A yard producing winners at that rate is not short of know-how when it comes to placing horses in races they can win. Earnest Belief ran just one day ago, so this is a horse very much in the thick of its season, active and being campaigned regularly. Whether the next run finally brings that first win or adds another place to the tally, it is a horse clearly still being given every opportunity to get its head in front.
