The most recent hint of anything meaningful came when he finished tenth in one of his last six races — and that, frankly, is the high point of his recent form. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much active, but the pattern has been consistent throughout.

He competes at Class 5, which is the entry level of British racing — the races designed for horses without much of a winning profile. Even here, he has drawn a blank in all four attempts at that level. That is not a criticism so much as an honest picture: some horses take a long time to find their feet, and others simply need the right conditions or trip to click. Whether that moment comes for Earlofbrackenstown remains to be seen.

He is trained by Jessica Bedi, who operates a small yard in Kirklevington, North Yorkshire. The team has sent out two winners this season, so it is not a stable without ability — but with a horse like this, patience is clearly the watchword. The racing world has seen plenty of horses who found their confidence late, and at seven years old, there is still time. Just not much margin for excuses.
