The horse is trained by William Durkan out of Sandyford in County Dublin, a yard that has sent out 15 winners already this season — so this is clearly a well-run operation with horses in decent form. Philip Byrnes rides most often, and while they've won together once from six attempts, the record between them is still developing.

Where Eagle Fang really catches the eye is over longer distances. In races run between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, the horse has won 2 from just 3 attempts — that's a 67% win rate, which is extraordinary. Two wins from three races at any distance would be impressive; at the specific distances where a horse is being aimed, it suggests William Durkan has worked out exactly where Eagle Fang belongs, and the horse has delivered.

Recent form backs that up. Looking at the last six races — seventh, second, second, sixth, second, first — there's a clear pattern of finishing close to the front, with the most recent result being a win at Killarney just this week. That's as current as form gets. The one blip, a sixth, sits in the middle of a sequence otherwise dominated by podium finishes, which is easy enough to forgive.

The one honest caveat is that Eagle Fang hasn't yet cracked the very top level — three runs at Class 1, the highest grade of race in Britain and Ireland, have returned zero wins. Stepping up to face the very best has proven a different challenge. But with a career first win at Naas in February 2024 and the most recent win coming just days ago, this is a horse very much in form and operating right at the peak of its powers. At the distances it loves, Eagle Fang is as consistent as anything running right now.
