Duty Bound

The career began to take shape at Sandown Park in May 2022, a track that demands a horse to be genuine and stay focused through a tricky finish. Winning there on debut at a new level is no small thing. More recently, Duty Bound landed a win at Killarney in July 2025, and while that was now nine months ago, the horse raced just one day ago — so this is very much a horse in active training, still being aimed at targets and still in the mix.

The recent form reads 12-–-2-5-5-1, which tells an interesting story. That "1" at the end — the most recent win — is followed by a blank entry suggesting a non-completion, then a second place, and a couple of fifth-place finishes. It is the kind of form that says the horse is working its way back toward its best rather than consistently firing. The trainer, J P Flavin, operates out of Tramore in County Waterford and has sent out 10 winners already this season — a yard clearly in decent nick.

Regular partner Conor Stone-Walsh has ridden Duty Bound in 7 of its 27 races, winning once together — a 14% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 7 rides. That mirrors the horse's overall record almost exactly, which suggests the combination is a settled and familiar one even if big days have been hard to come by. Duty Bound is unlikely to make headlines at the top level, but for a yard building quietly through a season, a horse that wins its share and rarely runs a bad race is exactly the kind of reliable foundation you want in your string.
