Jennie Candlish trains him out of her yard in Basford, Staffordshire, and she has had quite a season — 61 winners so far, which tells you this is a stable operating with real confidence. When Candlish first talked about Dunkerque back in early 2026, she was excited but measured, flagging that he came over from Denmark via trainer Gavin Cromwell and was a horse with obvious speed, one still finding his feet. The idea was to ease him in gently and see what level he could compete at. Fast forward to now, and the answer looks increasingly promising.

What makes his current streak particularly interesting is the ground factor. Dunkerque has won 4 of his 7 races on normal conditions — that is just over half, 57% — which is a striking number. Plenty of horses can win on any surface, but horses with a clear preference for specific conditions tend to be sharper and more consistent when things line up right, and Dunkerque has clearly found his best form when the ground plays fair.

His jockey Sean Quinlan offered a vivid account after a recent win at Southwell, describing the moment he thought he might have been beaten before his horse rallied to win. What comes through is that Dunkerque rewards patience — he jumps better as races progress and seems to grow into the challenge rather than burning out. That is exactly the kind of profile you want in a horse you are planning to keep running.

He has only been racing since July 2025, so there is still a sense that his story is just getting started. With the yard in such sharp form and a horse clearly building momentum, it would be no surprise to see Dunkerque step up in class before long.
