Duel Au Soleil

The most recent win came at Bangor-on-Dee earlier this week, on 8 September 2026, which is exactly the sort of result that keeps the yard believing in a horse's value. Before that, Duel Au Soleil had broken through for its first success at Wetherby back in October 2025—a breakthrough that took ten races to achieve, but once it happened, the second win followed less than a year later. The horse is trained by Ben Pauling's yard at Naunton in Gloucestershire, one of the busiest operations in the country with ninety-one winners sent out already this season, and is most often ridden by Callum Pritchard, with whom it has won once from six races together. What is telling, though, is that Duel Au Soleil has never won when stepping up to Class 4 company—the higher tier it occasionally enters—losing all five of those attempts. That tells you exactly where its ceiling sits: it is a horse that knows its place and wins its races at the level below, which is no small thing in racing.
