That said, Drum Major raced just yesterday, which tells you the team are keeping this horse busy and haven't lost faith. The yard behind it is William Muir and Chris Grassick, based in Lambourn — one of British racing's most famous training villages, nestled in the Berkshire Downs and home to some of the sport's great stables. Muir and Grassick have sent out 20 winners already this season, so this is clearly a yard that knows how to get horses to perform. The fact that Drum Major hasn't yet is a puzzle worth watching.
At two years old, it is worth remembering that horses this age are essentially teenagers finding their feet. Some take time to mature, to settle in a race, and to work out what is being asked of them. One placing from five races is modest, but the season is still alive, and with an active, winning yard in its corner, a first victory is not out of the question.
