Dr Strangelove

The career so far has a clear shape to it. Dr Strangelove broke its duck at Kempton Park in April 2025, then followed up with a second win at Salisbury in October 2025. Both victories came in sprinting trips between five and six and a half furlongs, which is clearly where the horse does its best work — winning two of six races at those distances, a ratio of one in three, is considerably better than average. Recent form of 2-2-3 in its last three completed runs tells you this is a horse right in the thick of things at the moment, finishing second twice and third once. The single run that ended in seventh is the outlier rather than the norm.

Oliver Cole trains the horse out of Whatcombe in Oxfordshire, and his yard has sent out eight winners this season — a decent haul that suggests a team in decent working order. Dr Strangelove has typically raced at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle tier of British racing — competitive without being the very top drawer — and has won one from three at that grade. The fact that the horse raced just one day ago and is still active points to a busy campaign, and given the recent back-to-back runner-up finishes, the team will be feeling that a third win is not far away. A horse finishing second twice in a row is one that is knocking on the door, not one that is fading out of contention.
