Cole's operation has been in decent form this season, sending out 8 winners already, and Dr Rascal is the latest addition to that tally. A single race, a single win — it doesn't get cleaner than that. Of course, one race tells you almost nothing about a horse's long-term ceiling. It could be a future star or simply a sharp youngster who caught a weak field on a good day. But a debut winner always attracts attention, and rightly so — it means the horse arrived at the track fit, ready, and better than everything else on the day.
What happens next is the interesting part. At two years old, Dr Rascal is only just getting started, and the yard — sorry, the team at Whatcombe — will now have a much clearer picture of what they're working with. Whether they step up in class or find another suitable race to build confidence, the record stays spotless for now. One from one. Hard to argue with that.
