Double Red

The most eye-catching detail in that record is what's happened at Nottingham. Double Red has won two of just three races there, making it one of the best tracks in the country for this horse — which is a remarkable return. Most horses take dozens of attempts before finding a genuine home circuit. Double Red seems to have found one almost immediately, with the first career win coming at Nottingham in April 2025. Horses that click with a particular track often do so for subtle reasons — the way the ground sits, the shape of the bends, the run-in — and whatever it is about Nottingham, Double Red clearly loves it.

Henry Candy trains the horse from his yard at Kingston Warren in Oxfordshire, and it's been a productive season — eight winners sent out so far. At Class 5 level, which is where Double Red typically runs (roughly the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, competitive but not the elite level), the horse has won two from nine, which works out at about one win in every four or five attempts. That's a solid return at that grade.

Trevor Whelan rides most often, partnering Double Red in 11 of its 20 races, though together they've only managed one win — a 9% win rate, or roughly one win every eleven rides. That's a modest return given how often they've been paired, so it's an interesting quirk in the record. The most recent win came at Lingfield Park in April 2026, just two months ago, and with the horse active as recently as yesterday, Double Red is bang in form right now. Two wins from the last six races is a strong recent run, and this is clearly a horse operating with confidence at the moment.
