Across 28 races at those trips, Distillate has won 4 times, a win rate of around 14 percent — or 1 in every 7 — which is meaningfully better than its overall record and tells you where the team at Adrian McGuinness's yard in Lusk, Co Dublin, will be pointing it. McGuinness has been in fine form this season, sending out 39 winners, so Distillate is part of a genuinely productive operation.

Cork is worth flagging specifically. Two wins from 8 races at that track might not sound dramatic, but in racing terms it is exactly the kind of stat that makes a horse interesting. One win from 8 is average. Two suggests something real — a track that suits the way the horse moves, or conditions that tend to come up in its favour. When Distillate is declared at Cork, it is worth paying attention.

The partnership with jockey Adam Caffrey is the other thread worth pulling on. They have teamed up 43 times, producing 5 of Distillate's 6 career wins — a win rate of 12 percent together, or roughly 1 in 8, which is nearly double the horse's overall figure. That kind of improvement with one rider is not a coincidence. Caffrey clearly understands this horse, and when the two are reunited, that history counts for something.

The last win came at Laytown in September 2025, now seven months ago, and the most recent six runs have not produced a victory. The last recorded finishing position is 14th, which is not what anyone wants to see. But Distillate is currently active, racing as recently as yesterday, and a horse that has already won 6 times from 81 starts is not done yet. It just needs the right track, the right trip, and ideally Caffrey in the saddle.
