Dingwall

Jardine, based in Carrutherstown in Dumfries and Galloway, has had a productive season — 57 winners sent out — and Dingwall's story gives a good insight into how patient, methodical training works. Early in 2024, Jardine admitted the horse had been running over the wrong distances entirely: too short over seven furlongs, then too keen in blinkers over a mile at Hamilton. It took switching to a hood and stepping him up to a mile and two furlongs at Ayr in July 2024 to unlock him. When it clicked, Jardine said he couldn't believe Dingwall had slipped to such a low rating — to a trainer's eye, the horse was better than his record suggested, and the results backed that up.

Dingwall also does his best work on normal ground — not too wet, not too dry — winning 2 from 15 races (13%) in those conditions. That's more than double his overall win rate, which tells you something useful: if the ground comes up soft or firm, he's less of a proposition. He races mainly at the lower end of the British racing ladder, Class 6, where he wins at 16% — 3 from 19 — which is a genuinely solid return at that level.

His most recent win came at Wolverhampton in November 2025, about six months ago now, and his last six runs read 5-6-7-2-2-2 — three consecutive runner-up finishes before the placings dried up. He raced just yesterday, so he's very much in the thick of things. Regular partner Andrew Mullen has ridden him 14 times for a single win together, which suggests the partnership is more about consistency than fireworks. Dingwall is not a horse who wins often, but he keeps finding the frame, keeps running his race. At Wolverhampton especially, he has a record that demands respect.
