The problem is that Dingwall hasn't been able to build on that start. In 37 races he has only three wins to his name — a win rate of roughly 1 in every 12 races — though he does earn a place more often than not, finishing in the money in nearly half his runs. He has gone eight months without a win since his last success at Wolverhampton on 25 November 2024, and his recent form has been thoroughly ordinary: a second and a fifth in his last six outings, bookended by trailing fields. What is interesting is where he does win. He's a course specialist at Wolverhampton with two wins from nine races there, and his record on normal ground is noticeably better than elsewhere — two wins from 16 attempts suggests he really doesn't want the turf to be either too soft or too firm. At Class 6 level, the bottom rung of competitive racing, he wins roughly one race in every six attempts, which is respectable enough for a horse of his modest mark.

Andrew Mullen has been his regular rider, though with only one win from 14 races together, that partnership hasn't quite clicked. For now, Dingwall remains a useful lower-level handicapper with a clear course preference and a known best distance, but the gap between his potential and his results has been widening. He raced just a day ago and is still active in the game, so there remains time for him to put together another winning sequence — he just needs the right race, the right ground, and perhaps the settling gear to kick in again.
