Dignam

That 50% win rate on a standard surface is exceptional, and it suggests a horse that is at its absolute best when conditions are neither too wet nor too dry. Push it onto muddy or firm ground and you are probably not seeing the real animal.

Distance matters as well. Over two miles or more, Dignam has won 2 of 4 races — again, 50%. Staying races reward a certain kind of horse: one that settles, travels well, and finds more when asked late. The numbers suggest Dignam has those qualities.

The one puzzle in the profile is the jockey partnership with Dylan Browne McMonagle. He has ridden Dignam five times without a win between them, which is a curious blank given how well the horse has performed overall. Meanwhile, O'Brien's yard has sent out 153 winners this season alone — one of the most productive training operations around — so Dignam is operating within a very serious setup.
