What marks Diderot out is his real affection for normal ground conditions — on standard racing surfaces he has won 3 of his 17 races, which is a much better win rate than his overall record suggests. Trainer Julie Camacho, based near Norton in North Yorkshire, has noted that the horse can be a touch quirky at home but has matured considerably on the track this year, settling better and running with more composure. His partnership with regular jockey Daniel Muscutt has yielded three wins from 17 races together, a respectable 18 per cent win rate that shows they work well as a team. The trainer has also observed that when Diderot has run well without winning, the margins have been tight — his most recent second at Chelmsford was only three-quarters of a length behind a horse enjoying a purple patch with seven wins since December.

Diderot remains actively campaigned, having raced just yesterday. He is best suited to races around a mile on normal ground, and while he competes regularly at the top class level, his win rate in Class 2 races stands at just 1 win from 11 attempts. At eight years old, he is seasoned enough to know his game, but the lack of winners in his last six outings suggests he may be operating just below the threshold where his talent and temperament align consistently.
