Now eight years old and trained by Adrian Wintle at a small yard in Westbury-on-Severn in Gloucestershire, Diamondsinthesand is very much a working-class racehorse — competing almost exclusively at Class 6, which is the bottom rung of British flat racing, where the fields are big and the prizes are modest. It has won 5 of its 43 races at that level, roughly 1 in every 9. That might not sound spectacular, but Wintle's yard has sent out 28 winners already this season, which suggests a trainer who knows how to place horses shrewdly and keep them competitive.

The horse also has a clear preference for wet or soft ground, winning 2 of its 7 races in those conditions — just under 1 in 3, which is a sharp jump above its overall record. If the weather has been kind to the ground, it is notably harder to beat.

Jockey Finley Marsh partners it most often, riding 25 of its races together and winning 2 of them — so roughly 1 in 12 when they combine. Its most recent win came at Bath on 13 September 2025, and recent form shows back-to-back second places before that victory, suggesting it had been building nicely before the win. It now returns from a break of around five months, which is a significant absence. Horses coming back from that long off the track can sometimes need a race or two to find their rhythm again.

The question when it reappears will be simple: is Ffos Las on the schedule? Because if there is one thing this horse has shown over 55 races and eight years of racing, it is that it saves its best performances for one very specific piece of Welsh coastline.
