Dial Me In

Recent form tells the story of a horse treading water. In the last six races, Dial Me In has finished fifth, third, eighth, thirteenth, second, and fourth — a run that includes two promising efforts (a third and a second) mixed in with some clearly off days. That thirteenth-place finish is the kind of result that makes a trainer think hard about where a horse belongs. The second place came most recently, just a day ago, which at least suggests the horse still has some fight in it and remains active.

Joseph Patrick O'Brien's yard at Owning Hill has been in flying form this season with 160 winners, so the infrastructure is there for Dial Me In to improve. Whether this horse can find another win and climb back to form will depend on finding the right race and the right conditions — for now, it remains one of the many young horses on the learning curve, capable but still waiting to prove it can do it twice.
