Deauville Lady

Her recent form tells a story of inconsistency. Over her last five races, she has finished sixth twice, seventh once, tenth once, and sixteenth once—the kind of scattered results that suggest she has not yet found her ideal distance, conditions, or moment. A sixteenth-place finish is particularly telling; it indicates she was well beaten and trailing the field. Yet the fact that she continues to race regularly, with her last outing just a day ago, shows that her trainer Nigel Hawke at Stoodleigh in Devon believes there is more to come. Hawke's yard has had eight winners this season, so there is proven form within the stable, even if Deauville Lady has not been part of that success so far. She may yet find a winning opportunity, but so far she remains a maiden at five—a horse still searching for her first victory.
