The recent form figures tell a pretty consistent story: seventh, seventh, a non-completion, sixth, and seventh again. That kind of pattern suggests a horse that is competitive enough to take its place in a race but hasn't yet found the step forward needed to trouble the horses at the front. At this stage, the yard will simply be hoping the penny drops.

De Songbird is trained by T.G. McCourt, based at Stamullen in County Meath. The yard has sent out 13 winners so far this season, which shows there is plenty of ability on the premises — De Songbird just hasn't managed to tap into it yet. With the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, it is clearly a busy campaign, and the team are giving it every opportunity to find its feet. Whether a change of conditions or a drop in the level of company can unlock something better remains to be seen.
