Trained by Jonjo and A J O'Neill out of their Cheltenham base, the horse is in professional hands — the team has sent out 52 winners already this season, which tells you this is not a small operation making up the numbers. A stable that busy has horses ready to run at the right time, and with Davita Blaze having raced just one day ago, it is clearly being kept active and ticking over. Whether that recent run produced any encouraging signs that the bare form does not show is the key question.

At this stage, Davita Blaze is a work in progress. Three races is barely enough to know what a horse is, let alone what it might become. Plenty of horses take time to mature and find their feet, and with a capable yard doing the groundwork, there is no reason to write it off just yet. But the evidence on the table right now is thin, and improvement will need to come soon if this horse is going to justify its place in a competitive stable.
