The recent form makes for interesting reading, though. After a couple of runs where things clearly didn't click, Dartmhor has been creeping steadily up the order — finishing third, then fourth, then seventh twice, before back-to-back wins in the last two outings. That turnaround from the back of the field to the front is exactly the kind of trajectory that gets a trainer excited, and Chris Grant's yard at Billingham in Cleveland will be watching closely. Grant has already sent out four winners this season, so this is a team that knows what a horse in form looks like.

At Class 5, Dartmhor has been competing at the entry level of British racing — these are the races designed for horses who are still proving themselves. Going 0 from 6 at that level with no win yet is admittedly a tough record to defend, but with those consecutive victories now on the board and a race just yesterday, the horse is clearly in the middle of something. Whether that momentum holds is the question worth asking.
