Trained by P J Rothwell at Tinahely, Dark Berkshire continues to race regularly—it was out just days ago—suggesting the yard still believes there is improvement to come. Rothwell's stable has sent out 35 winners this season, so the trainer clearly knows how to get horses to the winning post with other animals in the yard. Dark Berkshire's recent form offers little encouragement: across its last six races it has finished ninth, sixth, third, eleventh, seventh, and seventh. That third-place finish is its only notable moment in recent memory, and even that came several races back. The horse appears stuck in a pattern of mid-field finishes and well-beaten efforts, never quite competitive enough to trouble the judge but too inconsistent to be written off entirely. At six years old and with eleven races behind it, Dark Berkshire remains a work in progress—or perhaps a horse that simply has not found its level.
