Dabbling is trained by Ollie Pears, who operates out of Norton in North Yorkshire. Pears has had a productive season, sending out 13 winners, so the yard clearly knows how to get horses to perform. That makes Dabbling something of a work in progress — one of those projects every stable carries while they figure out what the horse needs to click into gear.
The bulk of Dabbling's racing has come at Class 5 level, which is essentially the entry level of the sport — the kind of races designed to give younger or less experienced horses a fair chance of winning. And yet even here, in three attempts, Dabbling hasn't managed to land a blow. That's not a disaster at this stage of a young horse's career, but it does mean the team will be hoping something changes soon, whether that's finding the right track, the right distance, or simply the horse maturing into its racing. Dabbling raced just yesterday, so whatever answers are coming, the search is very much still on.
