At Class 5 — the entry level of British racing, where horses are competing for modest prizes and the standard is the most accessible it gets — D Day Major Winter has gone zero wins from five attempts at that level. When a horse can't break through even at the lowest rung, it raises genuine questions about whether conditions, distance, or something else needs to change to unlock a different performance.

Nick Scholfield trains the horse from his Lambourn base in Berkshire, one of the most famous training centres in the country, home to dozens of yards operating at all levels of the sport. Scholfield's yard has sent out 22 winners this season, which shows the operation knows how to get horses winning — making D Day Major Winter something of an outlier in the string. The horse raced just one day ago, meaning it is very much in active campaign, and the team hasn't given up on finding the right opportunity to get it off the mark.

At four years old, there is still time. Some horses take longer to find their feet, and a change of trip, a softer surface, or simply the right race on the right day can occasionally transform a horse's fortunes. For now though, D Day Major Winter is one of racing's many honest triers — a horse that keeps turning up, keeps competing, and keeps the yard searching for that elusive first win.
