Cy Twombly

Trainer John Mackie's yard at Church Broughton in Derbyshire is having a decent season with 16 winners already, but Cy Twombly remains one of the few that has not managed to get on the board. At Class 5 level — the lower grades of racing — the horse has contested five races without winning, which suggests it may simply lack the competitive edge needed even at this modest standard. Yesterday's run was the most recent attempt, meaning the horse is still active and still chasing that elusive first win. Whether that will come remains unclear, but at this point in its career, every race without a victory is another chapter in what has been a frustrating campaign.
