He tends to be entered in Class 4 races, where he has won three of seventeen attempts (18%), a reasonable win rate at that level. Trainer Cian Collins, based at Navan, runs a yard that has produced twenty winners this season, and Richie McLernon, who rides Crossing The Bar most often, has partnered him to one win from six races together. It was Collins who acquired him at the Newmarket sales as an unusually big horse for the Flat—the sort who genuinely thrives when the ground is soft and heavy, conditions that suit his build far better than the firm, fast surfaces that suit smaller, lighter-framed competitors. For a horse now in his senior years, Crossing The Bar remains a useful tool in the winter months, when the British racing calendar turns wet and his particular assets come into their own.
