Hannon has been enthusiastic about what Cristo might become. Speaking in April, after the horse landed his first win at Chelmsford, the trainer described him as well-placed and full of ability — a horse who had physically grown into himself and was only starting to show what he could do. That first win came on 18 April 2025, and Cristo followed it up at the same track on 8 May. Two wins in three weeks, both at the same venue, on normal ground that suits him perfectly — it was the kind of form that makes you sit up.

The distance matters too. Cristo's two wins have come over a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs, where he wins roughly 2 races in every 7 — a 29% win rate that comfortably outstrips his record at shorter trips. Hannon has hinted he could get even further, which suggests there may be more improvement to come as he steps up in trip.

The picture since May has been less sparkling. Cristo hasn't won in his last six races, and his recent efforts — finishing eighth and seventh in consecutive outings — suggest he's found things tougher away from his favoured surroundings. He's been placed eight times across his career without winning, which tells you he's competitive without always finding that extra gear. Sean Levey, who rides him most often, has won just once from their seven races together — a 14% win rate, about 1 in 7.

Richard Hannon's yard has sent out 118 winners this season alone, so Cristo is one piece of a very busy operation. But with Chelmsford seemingly unlocking something in him, normal ground and a staying trip in front of him, don't be too surprised if this horse finds his way back into the winner's enclosure before long.
