Both of those wins came in quick succession in spring 2025 — the first on 18 April, the second on 8 May — and both came in normal ground conditions, which is where Cristo clearly operates best. On that surface, it has won 2 of its 10 races (20%), whereas elsewhere the record tails off. The distance also matters: stretched out to a mile and three or four furlongs, Cristo wins 2 of every 6 races at that trip (33%). That's a horse that needs time and space to do its best work.

Sean Levey has been the regular partner, riding Cristo in 7 of its 16 races and winning once together. That's a 14% win rate between them — about 1 win in every 7 rides — which is modest enough, but Levey has clearly built a working knowledge of a horse that can be tricky to place. Richard Hannon trains Cristo from his yard in Wiltshire, and with 109 winners already on the board this season, it's one of the busiest and most productive operations in the country.

The recent form makes for more sobering reading — Cristo hasn't won in its last six races, and the last six results (a seventh, fourth, a blank, eighth, sixth, and ninth) suggest a horse that has found life harder since those Chelmsford victories. It raced just yesterday, so it remains very much in active campaign. The recurring theme here is straightforward: Cristo is a horse that knows one track better than most, thrives when the conditions are right, and has the distance profile to be dangerous when the planets align. Whether it can rediscover that Chelmsford magic is the question worth watching.
