Most tellingly, the horse is a Wolverhampton specialist, having won twice in four visits to that track — that kind of course form is something astute trainers build campaigns around.

Matt Crawley's Newmarket yard has had a quiet season overall with just four winners sent out so far, which means Crimson Rambler is a notable part of the roster. The horse finds its best form in lower-grade races (winning two of five at Class 6 level), and the partnership with jockey Liam Wright has been productive, winning two of six races together at a 33% rate — significantly better than the overall record. That suggests Wright understands how to get the best out of this horse. If Crimson Rambler can find the right race on normal ground at around the mile-and-a-quarter mark, preferably back at Wolverhampton where it thrives, a return to the winner's enclosure looks entirely possible.
