Matt Crawley trains Crimson Rambler out of Newmarket, the spiritual home of British racing, and his yard has already sent out four winners this season. Jockey Liam Wright is clearly the preferred partner, and the numbers suggest the pairing works: two wins from six races together, which translates to winning one in every three times they team up. That is a striking ratio, and it tells you that when Wright gets the leg-up, something usually happens.
The really interesting part of Crimson Rambler's profile is what the numbers reveal about its preferences. Give it normal, dry ground underfoot and it transforms — three wins from six races on those conditions, a 50% win rate that would be remarkable at any level. Similarly, the horse finds its best form over a trip of one mile and one or two furlongs, winning three of its seven races at those distances. The picture is of a horse that knows exactly what it wants, and when it gets it, it delivers.
Nowhere is that more obvious than at Wolverhampton. Two wins from just four visits to that track make it a genuine course specialist, and the most recent of those came as recently as the 9th of March. The horse's last six results read 1-4-2-3-9-3 going back in time, with the encouraging part being that the win came most recently — this is a horse currently in form, having raced just yesterday. Most of its races have come at Class 6, the entry-level tier of competitive racing in Britain, and it has won 40% of those races, two from five. At that level, Crimson Rambler is not just competitive — it is dominant. The big question as it matures through its three-year-old season is whether the team at Newmarket will test it against stiffer competition.
