That said, the team behind the horse is anything but anonymous. Trainer Ian Williams operates out of Alvechurch in Worcestershire and has sent out 92 winners already this season, which tells you this is a yard that knows how to get horses competitive. Williams is not a trainer who runs horses just to give them an outing — when his horses are ready, they tend to perform. Country Pursuits has not shown that yet, but being in capable hands at least means the groundwork is being done properly.

Having last raced 21 days ago, Country Pursuits is an active runner and presumably another appearance is not far away. Two races is a very small sample — plenty of horses take time to find their feet — but the next run will start to tell a clearer story about whether this one has something to build on or is simply finding life a bit too difficult at this level.
