The pattern is clearer when you look at the distances that suit. Over the longer distances of one mile six furlongs to two miles, Coulstys Way has won 2 of its 10 races — a 20% win rate that stands out sharply against its overall record. This is the horse's range, and trainer Patrick Magee has clearly worked that out. At these distances the horse is twice as likely to win as it is in general, which is precisely the sort of detail that keeps a horse in work and earning. The yard at Shercock has sent out eight winners already this season, a sign Magee knows what he is doing.

Recent form shows mixed results. Fifth and fourth in the last two runs were followed by a win, a fourth place, and a ninth — the sort of up-and-down pattern common to horses of this grade. A third place three runs back suggests the horse remains capable on its day. Yesterday's race was the most recent outing, so Coulstys Way is actively campaigned and could run again soon. The question now is whether Magee can find races at the right distance where the odds stack back in the horse's favour. Given the Galway win five weeks ago, someone clearly still believes there is more to come.
