The breeding is encouraging. Starman was one of the fastest horses in Britain during his racing days, a specialist over short distances who won the July Cup — one of the most prestigious sprints on the calendar — and his offspring tend to carry that same electric pace. The mother's side adds further quality: Dark Angel is one of the most reliable and prolific sire lines in British racing, consistently producing quick, precocious horses that hit the ground running as youngsters. On paper, Costa Verde looks built to be sharp early and run well at two.
The trainer, K P De Foy, operates out of Newmarket — the historic home of British racing, where the best yards in the country are based. With 40 winners already on the board this season, this is clearly a yard in fine form, and that matters. A horse from a yard firing on all cylinders tends to arrive at the track fit, well-schooled, and ready to show its best. Costa Verde may be unknown quantity, but it is at least an unknown quantity with a solid team behind it.
