The recent form shows promise mixed with inconsistency. Two weeks on from that Down Royal victory, Connecteo returned to racing and finished third, which suggests the horse was doing enough but lacking that extra gear needed to convert another win. Before that, a second place at what looks like a stronger fixture, followed by a sixth, then a first-place finish before the Down Royal breakthrough. That string of middling results — mostly placing without winning — is the story of Connecteo's career so far. The yard itself is in good health, sending out 18 winners this season, so the horse is in a stable outfit with form on the board. At three years old, Connecteo remains young enough to develop, but will need to start stringing wins together more regularly if it is to progress beyond occasional success. The key is finding races at the right distance; that mile-and-a-quarter to mile-and-a-half sweet spot looks like the horse's playground.
