The recent form tells an interesting story. In its last six races, the best results have been a second and a third, but sandwiched around those are a ninth and an eleventh — wild swings that make Condotti a tricky horse to pin down. It raced just yesterday, which means trainer Hugo Palmer is keeping this horse busy and clearly believes there is a race to be won somewhere.
Palmer himself is having a strong season, sending out 67 winners from his yard in Malpas, Cheshire — so the training operation is clearly functioning well. The question is why none of that success has rubbed off on Condotti. The horse has run six times at Class 5, which is the entry-level tier of British racing, and has still not managed a win. At that level, you would expect a horse with five places from 13 races overall to have converted at least once. The fact it hasn't is either maddening or fascinating, depending on your temperament.
At this point Condotti is essentially a horse that collects minor prize money without ever claiming the top share. Whether Palmer can find the right conditions to finally get it over the line remains to be seen, but with the horse still racing actively, the search is clearly ongoing.
