De Bromhead, who has sent out 107 winners from his yard already this season, is clearly treating this horse as a serious Cheltenham contender. The plan is straightforward: get through the Gold Cup prep, then make further decisions. The one condition note worth knowing is that Coming Up Easy does not want the ground too wet — deep mud is not its friend — but anything on the better side of soft suits it fine, and Cheltenham in November can offer exactly that.

With a race logged just yesterday and Cheltenham firmly in the crosshairs, this is a horse to watch over the coming weeks. Eight-year-olds are often right at the peak of their powers in jump racing, experienced enough to handle big-field cavalry charges but not yet aged to the point where the miles start to show. Coming Up Easy has the form, the trainer, and the target. The question now is whether it can step up to a genuinely top-level occasion — and there are people at Knockeen who clearly think it can.
