Come On The Lads

Trained by Gavin Cromwell out of Navan in County Meath, Come On The Lads is in capable hands. Cromwell's yard has sent out 96 winners already this season — that's a serious operation, the kind where horses get the time and attention they need to perform. A trainer hitting those numbers doesn't do it by accident, and horses in that yard tend to be placed in races they can win.

The horse's best distance appears to be somewhere between a mile and six furlongs and two miles — in three races at that range, it has won once, a win rate of 33%, or roughly 1 in 3. That's a much sharper return than its overall record suggests, and it points to a horse that genuinely gets into its stride when asked to travel a bit further. The most recent win came at Limerick on 31 March 2026, around three months ago, and the form since has been mixed — a fifth, then two unplaced runs in the last two outings. That dip is worth noting, though it doesn't cancel out everything that came before. Regular jockey Kieren Buckley hasn't yet managed a win from their six races together, which is a curious stat, but partnerships can take time to click — or sometimes the right race just hasn't come along yet.

The first career win arrived at Tipperary in May 2024, which gives this horse a little over two years of winning experience under its belt. Still only six, there's no reason to think the story is anywhere near finished. With a trainer in form, a preferred trip now identified, and a race just yesterday keeping it race-fit, the next chapter could come sooner rather than later.
