Cobra Queen

She races under the care of Henry De Bromhead at his yard in Knockeen, Co Waterford, one of Ireland's most respected training operations. With 107 winners sent out this season alone, it is a yard that knows how to place a horse to its best advantage, and Cobra Queen looks a good example of that. Rachael Blackmore, one of the most celebrated jockeys in the sport, has teamed up with her for eight of those races, winning two — exactly that same one-in-four ratio that runs like a thread through Cobra Queen's whole career.

Her first win came at Cork in July 2024, and Blackmore described a horse that had suffered a fall at her previous run but bounced back to jump cleanly and travel like a horse enjoying herself. "She did it nicely," was Blackmore's verdict — straightforward praise, but telling. Horses that travel well and jump with confidence tend to keep delivering.

Her most recent win came at Roscommon in September 2025. After that, however, things went a little quieter. De Bromhead admitted she looked flat at Wincanton — outpaced and unable to find her rhythm — and the decision was made to give her a proper break and bring her back fresher in the spring. That kind of honesty from a trainer is worth paying attention to: rather than keep running a horse through a sticky patch, the yard chose to reset.

She raced just yesterday, so the spring campaign is clearly underway. If Cobra Queen comes back to anything like her best, a horse who wins one in four and runs in the money as often as she does will be hard to ignore. She is not a horse chasing the biggest prizes in the sport, but she is exactly the kind of consistent, reliable performer who makes following racing genuinely enjoyable.
