The two career wins both came at a distance of around a mile and three or four furlongs — the horse has won 2 of its 7 races at that trip, which works out at roughly 1 in every 3.5, a genuinely strong record at a specific distance. For a horse whose overall numbers are unremarkable, that conversion rate over longer distances is a real calling card. When the race is run at the right length, Cloudside Rock becomes a different proposition entirely. The first win came at Ffos Las in late August 2025, the second at Southwell in late April 2026 — five weeks ago — so there is recent winning form to point to, not something buried in the archives.

What puzzles the picture is the record at Class 5 level — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing — where Cloudside Rock has run six times and won none of them. That is a strange inversion: winning at longer distances but going quiet at a specific level of competition. It is the sort of thing that keeps trainers and punters scratching their heads.

David Simcock, who trains the horse out of Newmarket, is having a productive season with 39 winners already on the board, so there is no shortage of confidence in the yard. Regular jockey Hayley Turner has not yet found the winner's enclosure with Cloudside Rock in five attempts together, which is worth noting — the two wins both came without her in the saddle. Cloudside Rock raced just yesterday, so it is very much in the thick of a busy campaign. Whether that second win in April proves to be a turning point or a brief flash of form is the question worth watching.
