Circe

The ground matters enormously with Circe. On fast, dry conditions she has won 3 from 7 races — nearly 1 in every 2 — and on normal ground she goes close to that again, with 2 wins from 5. In short, when the sun has been out and the track is riding well, she is a genuine threat. She is less well understood on softer ground, and that gap in the record is worth noting if you ever see her running on a wet autumn afternoon.

Her biggest moment came at Doncaster on 15 September 2023, where she won a Class 2 race — one of the better races in the country — and it also happened to be the first win of her career. Breaking your duck at that level, in that kind of company, is no small thing. Newmarket has since become another happy hunting ground: 2 wins from just 4 visits there is a record that makes her particularly interesting whenever that track appears in her entries.

Circe races for Richard Hannon's yard in Wiltshire, one of the most productive training operations in Britain this season — 118 winners and counting. Her most regular partner in the saddle has been Sean Levey, though their record together of 1 win from 6 races suggests the partnership has not quite clicked the way the horse's overall ability might suggest it should. Her most recent win came at Musselburgh just three weeks ago, and with her last run only yesterday, she is clearly in a busy and productive spell of form. The recent run of 3-1-9-7-4-4 tells its own story: there have been some off days in there, but that third place most recently and the win just before it show the ability is still very much present.
