The career so far has a pleasing arc to it. The first win came at Goodwood back in May, a track with enough twists and undulation to sort out horses with genuine ability from those just getting by. Then, this week, Ciarrai Abu went to Ascot and won again — a racecourse that carries real prestige and regularly stages some of the biggest days in the sport. Winning there at any age feels significant; doing it as a three-year-old, still developing, suggests there could be more to come.
The trainer behind it all is Harry Eustace, based in Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing, where the competition among yards is fierce and mediocrity doesn't last long. Eustace's operation has sent out 24 winners already this season, which speaks to a yard running in good form and managing their horses well. Ciarrai Abu looks like one of the better threads running through that season.
With a recent form line reading 1-4-1-2-6 — two wins, a second, a fourth, and one off-day — this is a horse whose worst result looks like the exception rather than the rule. The question now is where the yard take a young, winning horse in mid-July. With Ascot already ticked off and the season in full swing, the opportunities tend to get bigger from here.
