Bangor is a tight, quirky little track in North Wales that suits certain horses down to the ground — so it's worth noting whether the team decides to head back there if they're looking to find that winning feeling again. The victory came fifteen months ago now, and since then Chosen Bae has gone six races without getting back in front, with recent finishes of eighth, sixth, eighth, third, fourth and sixth. There are flickers of promise in there — a third and a fourth suggest the horse isn't disgracing itself — but the wins haven't followed.

Most of Chosen Bae's racing has come at Class 5 level, which is essentially the bread-and-butter tier of British racing — competitive enough, but a step or two below the headline events. At that level, the record reads one win from eight races, or about 1 in every 8 tries, which is actually a slightly more encouraging picture than the overall career numbers suggest. It means when Chosen Bae is pitched at the right level, it isn't completely out of its depth.

The trainer is Ryan Potter, operating out of a small yard in Sellack in Herefordshire. It's not one of the big stables you'd associate with a string of Cheltenham winners, but Potter's team have sent out six winners this season, which shows they know how to get a horse ready to run its best. For a yard of that size, six winners is a decent return, and it means Chosen Bae is at least in capable hands. Whether this horse can add to its tally remains to be seen, but with racing just one day ago, it's very much a current story rather than a finished one.
