The recent form makes for tough reading. Over its last six races the best it has managed is a third place, with two ninth places and a tenth in there as well. That dip toward the back of the field in more recent outings is a concern, and with a race just yesterday, the team at Phil McEntee's Newmarket yard will be watching closely to see how it comes out of that run.
McEntee's yard has sent out 17 winners this season, so it is not a place short on know-how — but Chiedozie has not been one of those success stories. Josephine Gordon has ridden the horse five times and the pair have not managed a win between them. At Class 6, which is the entry level of British racing — the point where horses who have found things difficult elsewhere tend to end up — Chiedozie has run 14 times without winning. In a sense, that is the starkest number in the whole profile: even at the lowest rung, it has not been able to get its head in front.
None of that means there is nothing to root for. Horses like this one, with five career places, are not simply making up the numbers — they are competitive enough to finish near the front, just not quite competitive enough to win. Whether that changes remains to be seen, but for now Chiedozie is a horse still searching for its moment.
