What makes the situation more interesting is who is behind the horse. Mark Fahey trains out of Cloneygath in County Kildare, and his yard has sent out 24 winners already this season — a serious tally that tells you this is not a small operation finding its feet. Fahey clearly knows how to get horses winning, which means the patience being shown with Chico Guapo is a considered one. Not every two-year-old clicks straight away, and a yard with that kind of firepower behind it can afford to let a young horse learn.
Having raced just one day ago, Chico Guapo is very much in the thick of its campaign right now. Two-year-olds are still developing physically and mentally throughout the season, and it is not unheard of for horses to look completely lost early on before suddenly putting it all together. Whether that moment comes for this one remains to be seen — but with a trainer in form and another run likely just around the corner, the story is not finished yet.
