Her first career win came at Kempton in September 2024, and her most recent win came back there in May 2025. Some horses simply take to a particular circuit, and Kempton appears to bring out something extra in Charmaine.

Wet and muddy conditions also seem to suit her well. On soft or heavy ground she has won 2 of her 6 races — that is 1 in 3 — compared to a much thinner record when the ground dries out. It is the kind of detail that matters enormously to anyone watching the weather forecast ahead of a race day.

Her regular partner in the saddle is Daniel Muscutt, who has ridden her in 10 of her races and won twice — a 20% win rate, or 1 in 5. That is a solid partnership, and continuity with a jockey who knows a horse well is generally a good sign. She is trained at Newmarket by James Fanshawe, a yard that has sent out 44 winners already this season — clearly a stable operating in decent form.

The one note of caution is that her last 6 races have all been placings without a win — finishing fourth three times, second twice, and sixth once. She is knocking on the door consistently but has not pushed it open since May. At Class 4 level, where she has won 3 of 7 races, the competition is manageable, and with Kempton Park on the horizon and a wet forecast, Charmaine is the kind of horse who could end that run without much warning.
