The recent form figures tell their own story. A finish of tenth last time out is hard to put a positive spin on, and the sequence of 10-4-5-7-6-6 going back through the last six runs shows a horse that is consistently finishing in the middle or back end of the field. It raced just yesterday, which means it is very much still active and being given every opportunity to turn a corner.
Bramley's yard is having a decent enough season — 19 winners sent out is a respectable haul — which makes Chambers something of an outlier. At Class 5, the level where the competition is least fierce and where horses of modest ability are expected to be competitive, Chambers has managed nothing from five attempts. That is the level where you would expect a horse to find its feet, so to still be waiting there is a real challenge.
Whether there is a breakthrough coming is genuinely hard to say. Some horses take time, and others simply need the right conditions on the right day. But at four years old with a blank record across ten races, time is starting to feel like a factor. Lambourn is one of the most famous training centres in Britain, full of experienced eyes, so if anyone can find a way to get Chambers competitive, the team there is as well-placed as any. For now, though, this is a horse that has yet to give its supporters a single moment to cheer about.
