Cawthorne Cracker

The most interesting thread running through its career is the partnership with jockey Toby Wynne. When those two have teamed up, Cawthorne Cracker has won 3 of their 11 races together — that's 27%, or roughly 1 in every 4, which is a sharp improvement on its overall record. That kind of chemistry between horse and jockey is worth paying attention to: Wynne clearly gets the best out of this one. The first win came at Exeter in October 2023, and the most recent at Sedgefield in October 2024, so there is form on the board at two very different tracks.

The concern right now is timing. That Sedgefield win was 18 months ago, and Cawthorne Cracker hasn't won in its last six races. The recent form reads 5-–-2-5-5-3, which tells a story of a horse that has been placing occasionally but not threatening to win. A fifth, a third, and a second are sprinkled in there, so it's not running badly — but the gap to a winner has been widening. Add in the fact that it's now returning from a five-month break, and there are genuine questions to answer.

The yard behind it, Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero operating out of Oldcastle in Cheshire, have sent out 43 winners this season, which is a healthy, active operation — they're not a small outfit sending runners out just to make up the numbers. When they bring a horse back from a long absence, they tend to have a plan. Whether Cawthorne Cracker can rediscover the form that made it competitive 18 months ago is the question every race fan will be watching for when it returns to the track.
