The place to see this horse at its very best is Cartmel, the tiny, scenic track tucked into the Lake District that also happens to be home to trainer James Moffatt's yard. Both of Caughtinyourtrance's career wins have come there, from 6 races at the track — a win rate of 33%, or 1 in every 3 attempts. That is a striking number. Most horses win roughly 1 in 8 or 9 races across their careers; winning a third of your races at one specific venue suggests a horse that genuinely suits the tight, unusual nature of the course. Moffatt clearly knows how to aim this horse right.

The current season has been a study in near-misses. Looking at the last six runs — three second-place finishes, a third, and a sixth — the pattern is of a horse competing well at its level without quite delivering the knockout. That last win came at Cartmel on 19 July 2025, and the horse has been placed in several of the runs since, which tells you it has not fallen off a cliff in form. It is simply a horse that has found a level where it is competitive but not dominant — which is exactly what you would expect from something that races mainly at Class 4, roughly the fourth tier of British racing.

Moffatt's yard has been in good nick this season, sending out 11 winners, and regular partner Charlotte Jones has been on board for 7 of the pair's 17 races together, winning 1 of those — about 1 in 7. The combination clearly has a good understanding of what the horse needs. Caughtinyourtrance raced just yesterday, so it is very much mid-campaign and in the thick of things. Whether another Cartmel win is coming is hard to say, but if it does happen, few will be surprised about the venue.
