That sole career win came at Newmarket back in October 2021 — now nearly five years ago — and he hasn't troubled the winner's enclosure since. Six places from his 14 races show he's competitive enough to finish close, but converting that into a win has proved elusive. His last six runs read 10th, 2nd, 6th, 6th, 4th, 6th — there's a second place in there that suggests the ability is still present, but the wins simply aren't coming.

He's ridden most often by Jamie Spencer, one of the more experienced jockeys in the weighing room, and the pair have been out together 12 times. They've won once from those 12 races — roughly 1 in every 12 attempts together — which again underlines that this is a horse that competes hard without often delivering the result. David Simcock, who trains Cash at Newmarket, has had a productive season with 39 winners from his yard, so the operation around the horse is clearly functioning well. Cash just hasn't been able to add to that tally himself.

He raced just yesterday, so he's very much in the thick of things right now. Whether he can end a winless run stretching back almost five years remains the question — but for a horse spending his career rubbing shoulders with the best in Britain, simply being in those races week after week is a story in itself.
