Cascade Hall

Jim Goldie, who trains Cascade Hall from his yard at Uplawmoor in Lanarkshire, has had 88 winners this season — a strong return by any measure — and he clearly believed in this horse from early on. When he bought him off Tom Malone at a horses-in-training sale, Goldie admitted he was taking a bit of a punt. The horse had been a hurdler, the trip was an unknown, and Goldie was candid enough to say he might have bought a jumper by mistake. What he did know was that the horse had ability. It just needed the right conditions to show it.

Those conditions turned out to be distance. Over a mile and six furlongs to two miles, Cascade Hall has won 2 of his 17 races at that trip — a 12% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 8 — which might not sound dramatic, but compare it to his record at shorter trips and it is the difference between a horse going through the motions and one that is genuinely competitive. His first career win came at Ayr in May 2026, and he followed that up with a second win at Musselburgh just four weeks later. Two wins in the space of a month for a horse that had previously taken years to get off the mark.

One curiosity in the record is his partnership with jockey Paul Mulrennan. The two have teamed up nine times without a win to show for it — 0 from 9 — yet both of Cascade Hall's victories have come in recent weeks, suggesting the horse has turned a corner regardless of who is in the saddle. Raced just yesterday and still in active training, Cascade Hall arrives at this point in his career looking like a horse who finally knows his job — and who is worth watching whenever he lines up over a proper distance.
