Recent form makes for tough reading. Her last six races have produced finishes of 14th, 6th, 6th, 6th, and two further blanks — a stretch that suggests she is finding it difficult to land even a minor role in the races she is entering. Harry Sexton has been the jockey most often asked to coax something out of her, riding her five times without a win between them. At some point, a partnership needs a result to justify its continuation, and that result has not come.
To her credit, Captain Kate raced just yesterday, so whatever else you say about her, she is out there competing. Racing is a sport where plenty of horses never make it to the track at all, and she keeps showing up. Whether showing up is enough is another question entirely. For now, she remains one of those horses who teaches you that sport at every level has participants who make the numbers work — and that without them, the winners would have no one to beat.
